GTF

I was sitting around at a bar with some friends of mine last night. As it usually does, the conversation turned to music. The question was posed- what is your absolute, 100%, can-never-change favorite song?

I thought about it for a while. I have lots of favorite songs. But finding a song that could meet the above criteria seemed daunting. Then, it hit me. It's that song that takes me out of whatever mood I'm in and sends the soul of everyone who hears it to the heavens- 'Given To Fly' by Pearl Jam.

I challenge you, whoever actually comes by this joint- next time you're feeling down (these days, who isn't feeling down?) by hook or by crook, find this song. (You should buy the album, it's Pearl Jam's masterpiece. And it's like ten bucks these days.) Crank this song as loud as you dare, and for a time, you'll forget what was bothering you.

they should include 'dirty frank'

VGA 08: Rock Band gets Pearl Jam 'Ten' in March

That's great, I guess. I'm happy to see a Pearl Jam pack, but wake me when they offer 'No Code' or 'Yield'.

staying hip

Guns N’ Roses Demand Apology From Dr Pepper Over Soda “Fiasco”

Axl Rose really knows how to stay in the headlines. I understand that Dr. Pepper used the GnR name and such without their consent, but c'mon. You had 42 hours to get the soda coupon.

I bet it really burns Axl's ass that people were more excited to get a free bottle of pop than hear his new album.

this week's gets

LP-

Metallica-...And Justice For All. Absolutely essential to one's collection. I've been trying for a long time to win this on ebay, and I'm glad I don't have to buy someone's used LP for an astronomical price. This reissue series has been wonderful to me. Everything up to the Black Album is out now, soon to be followed by Load. Sorry, no reissue of 1987's $5.98 EP.

Coldplay- Viva La Vida. Should have just bought this version in the first place, since it comes with the CD in a cardboard sleeve. Looks like my jewelcase version is headed to the local used music peddler.

CD-

AC/DC- For Those About To Rock We Salute You. the last essential album I needed from this band. I might finish their entire catalog since they're cheap and it's AC/DC.

Coldplay- X&Y. I decided to give this another try, only this time, I bought it instead of downloading it. It was $9, so no big loss if I still don't like it.

if only...

Metallica w/ Dave Lombardo of Slayer on drums.

this week's gets

LP-
Guns N' Roses- Chinese Democracy

CD-
Coldplay- Prospekts March EP- haven't listened to it yet. For a guy who has a week's vacation, I've sure been busy.

Guns N' Roses- Chinese Democracy. I rushed out to get my hands on this Sunday morn, and well, I'm still soaking it in. As of now, half of this album really kicks, and the remainder of the songs are strange. Even stranger than the darker, untraveled corners (aka songs you skip over to get to the good ones) of the UYI albums. I do find a lot of these songs to be overdone. I guess that's what happens when something is worked on for 14 years.

If you go into this expecting it to be anything like the Gn'R you've heard, you've already lost. That's the only thing I can tell you.

dr.'s orders

Get your free Dr. Pepper here.

Sure, I'll end up on their mailing list, but I find Diet Dr. Pepper to be quite tasty, so it's all good with me.

Now then. Sleep, then to Best Buy for the new GnR album.
