if only...

Metallica w/ Dave Lombardo of Slayer on drums.

this week's gets

LP-
Guns N' Roses- Chinese Democracy

CD-
Coldplay- Prospekts March EP- haven't listened to it yet. For a guy who has a week's vacation, I've sure been busy.

Guns N' Roses- Chinese Democracy. I rushed out to get my hands on this Sunday morn, and well, I'm still soaking it in. As of now, half of this album really kicks, and the remainder of the songs are strange. Even stranger than the darker, untraveled corners (aka songs you skip over to get to the good ones) of the UYI albums. I do find a lot of these songs to be overdone. I guess that's what happens when something is worked on for 14 years.

If you go into this expecting it to be anything like the Gn'R you've heard, you've already lost. That's the only thing I can tell you.

dr.'s orders

Get your free Dr. Pepper here.

Sure, I'll end up on their mailing list, but I find Diet Dr. Pepper to be quite tasty, so it's all good with me.

Now then. Sleep, then to Best Buy for the new GnR album.

can not get enough Dragonforce

Those guitar players have to have the fastest hands in all of history.

this week's gets

Not much. Bills and such have made me a working pauper.

CD-
Dragonforce- Ultra Beatdown
It sounds like Dream Theater went on a Dungeons & Dragons bender, read a bunch of poetry that had the words 'horizon', 'ocean', and 'destiny' in it, and recorded an album and gave it a dumb title. Cool band name, though.

New Kiss album?

At about 2 1/2 minutes in, Paul Stanley reveals plans for a new Kiss album, the first since 1998's Psycho Circus. This is great. I've been wondering if they'd ever do another studio album, and after AC/DC's success with 'Black Ice', their first since 2001, and the Eagles before that, maybe they figured the time was right. Plus, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer have been in the band for some time, so it's only right to have them on a real Kiss album.

Now comes the part where I have to wait. It will probably take another year at this point since it's in the 'early stages.'

honk if you love Tremor Christ

All Pearl Jam channel on AOL Radio

I've had this playing at different times today, and the stuff I've heard on it is great. Clearly, if there's someone picking the playlist, this person is a very knowledgeable fan that I'd like to buy a drink for.

If you don't mind hearing a bunch of commercials before you get to the music, check it out.

this week's gets

I'll also do a list of stuff I've bought in the last week or so. Why? Because I can.

CD-
Metallica- Load- I sold my copy years ago, and since I've been on a huge Metallica kick for some time, I'm going back and filling the holes in my 'tallica discography.

Queen+ Paul Rodgers- The Cosmos Rocks- I haven't finished listening to this yet. Thoughts in a full review when I do.

LP-
Metallica- Death Magnetic- I go to Hot Topic regularly. I can tell you I'm clearly not their target audience. However, they are good for one reason- they carry brand-new vinyl albums for fair prices. I picked this up there at last, after being foiled at Best Buy.

AC/DC- Let There Be Rock and If You Want Blood You've Got It- I'm fortunate to have a very prolific used music peddler locally. The stuff I've bought there boggles the mind. I found these there, and since I didn't have either of these on any format, I bought them.

DVD-
Metallica- Some Kind of Monster- I really wanted my own copy. I haven't seen it for a few years, so it was neat to see again.

Kiss- Kiss My Ass- I have this on VHS, but I always upgrade something when I find the DVD cheap enough. This was $5, and it's a great collection of live Kiss. It is rendered a little redundant with the release of the Kissology DVDs, but seeing those commercials from the 1970s for Kiss merchandise is really worth my Lincoln.

first note

Just what the world needs- another website about music. But I’m arrogant, so I don’t care. I plan on this mostly focusing on rock n’roll, but I also have a taste for other genres, so those will be included too. This will mostly just be a bunch of album reviews and occasional gig reviews, but I’m not able to make it to as many shows as I’d like, so those are few and far between. I’ll do new album reviews, but I also plan on sharing my thoughts on classic and older albums. Probably not as articulate as most in the music press, but I’m doing it for love and not because it’s my job.

This has grown out of several bands contacting me on MySpace. I find I enjoy some of these bands, and I’ll do my best to spread the word with this blog. For instance, Satin Gum. You’ve probably never heard of them, but they’re pretty great, methinks.

Oh yeah, and there might be a lot of bitching about Guitar Hero. My roommate just bought the new World Tour game, and nobody’s gotten any sleep around here for a week.
